Food Friday: Scrapple and Roasted Pig Stomach

Today's Food Friday comes from a cookbook that is a bit of a mystery. This self-published title, Delicious Country Style Cooking with Memories of Home is written and illustrated by a Mrs. Ida Lapp of Gordonville, Pennsylvania. There is no date of publication and no indication who the target audience of the book is. My guess is that it might have been offered for sale at a restaurant or small town gift shop. The author states that most of the recipes are from family whose names are noted throughout the book.

It appears that there were multiple copies of this booklet made since I found 8 for sale on Biblio.com and found a genealogy message board posting about the cookbook. Unlike some self-published collections, this one is well archived in at least 5 libraries in the United States including the Los Angeles Public Library and Harvard (both have major culinary collections) as well as the Mennonite Historical Library. I also found another blog that talked about the cookbook and its Amish recipes

Today's recipes are, not surprisingly, unique to the Pennsylvania area.

Wouldn't it be great if we all took some time to document our family recipes and provide them to others? On a final note, I'd have to agree with Ida, "all foods are more delicious when served with love."
