Food Friday: Honor Among Cooks

From the collection of Gena Philibert-Ortega

Today's  recipes are from the 1939 cookbook Honor Among Cooks: A Kitchen File compiled by Mary Spahr. This cookbook was sold to raise funds for refugee children.

Some of the recipes are credited and some are not. Rather than coming from a local community of women, these recipes are from women in various states.

I have to say that I love the dedication which is especially meaningful for genealogists.

It seems absurd to dedicate so small a book to so large a cause. Yet, because our most honored ancestors were refugees, we wish to dedicate this book to all children who unlike our ancestors, have no choice in their future; but, driven from their homes, are helpless and in flight.

Since one of my friends mentioned she was cooking squash blossoms for dinner a few nights back, I thought I'd include a recipe for that as well as a few other summer squash recipes for today.
